Trying out 101,103,104,105,106

Hey guys! So this week I finally was able to conduct an experiment that I haven't seen anyone ( or probably most Wet Plate photographers have done this and don't talk about it) do yet online. So I took the plunge.

For tintypes, the metal that I typically use is engraving metal with a thickness of .020 and buffed bright black. This time when I went to order plates from Main Trophy , I decided to order a sample pack of 3x3 plates in the color of blue, purple, red, green, and gold. And these are the results.

As you can see, I only did three colors. Upon receiving the sample pack the gold and the green were very mirror like and I felt like I wouldn't get an image out of it. Although, I do keep reading on Collodion Bastards of other people using mirrors for Wet Plate.

Ive always was most curious of ordering purple glass to do ambrotypes with, but having a recent adventure with glass and cleaning and making albumen I was glad in the end not to do a lot of prep work.

The one thing that I found interesting that on each plate there is a scratch towards the bottom of the scale right around the place of the image of the scale.
Not sure if I would order full plates of the blue, but it was definitely with the trial and error.
Till next time!
